You have been doing long days carrying a lot of gear so you do need some easier days.

What a great first day! I’m glad you got to see a play.

You made it! We are from Portland , Oregon and our first overseas bike tour was to New Zealand about 30 years ago. It was a very, very long flight but a wonderful tour! Have a great time!

Wait. Aren't you supposed to dip your BACK tire in the Atlantic and the front tire in the Pacific? Better go back and do it again, lol.

You can touch the one here in Dayton too as it sits next to "the" B-70.

Thank you, Andrea. We sure feel like we're seeing a lot. I'm looking forward to seeing the national parks. Once I'm done with this trip I'll probably have seen more of the US than I have of NZ

You've probably seen more important American sights in the past few days than most Americans have! Folks in the West rarely travel to that end of the country, and you get to see it from coast-to-coast. May all treat you as the welcome guest that you are.

Sounds like a wonderful trip! We also are from Portland, OR but after we retired we sold our place and hit the road. Too bad we won’t be in Portland when you get there. We’ve also bike toured in New Zealand 30 years ago and really enjoyed it!

I start on the 10th and you will be covering a few more miles each day than me so chances are we will meet up at some point. I was in NZ for two weeks in February, had a great time

Our first real riding day is Saturday, 13 May. Newport News -> Yorktown and then on towards Williamsburg. A few days after you, but close enough that we might run into each other.

Welcome to the states, and like Jonathan, we live in Portland. Hit us up if you need anything when you get to town. Best of luck and have a wonderful ride.

Luke, my wife and I just spent 2 weeks touring around the South Island of New Zealand. Had a wonderful time hiking, paddling, and biking
I am starting the Transamerica myself at the beginning of May. Hope to see you at some point

Hey Luke,

Congratulations on choosing to do the trip in the correct direction: East to West!

That's how I did the TransAm, and most of the other long USA tours I've done. You'll have your share of tailwinds, and it's much nicer to have the sun at your back, instead of in your eyes, in the morning.

I live in Kentucky, not that far from the route where it goes through Sebree. Feel free to hit me up if you have any questions about the Kentucky portion, or anything else.

Jeff
