Smoky the Bear AND Woodsy Owl! Haven’t heard about them in a long time! Hope you get past the cold and start feeling better soon.

"Finally I reached the top. I'd climbed almost 3,000 miles from Glennville in the last few hours."

Wow, that's an incredible amount of climbing! Not even the famous adventurer Greg Garceau could climb that much in one of his imaginary adventures. Not bad at all for a sick guy.

Seriously though, hope you get better soon.

Jeff,
I really feel for you with that cold. Still, you’re making amazing progress, providing outstanding pictures and excellent journaling!
Wishing you the best - most of all, a speedy overnight recovery from your cold!

It sucks to get sick on tour - been there, it was no fun at all. A day of rest might be helpful. Hope you get well soon.

I hope you are feeling better today and that you enjoyed your exciting time in Bakersfield. I actually like the Central Valley - not so much the endless straight and flat , but the hillier eastern side. For decades I have said that the split in California is not between Northern and Southern, but between Coastal and Valley.

The nickname ( one of them, anyway) for Bakersfield is “Bako”. But, Buck Owens and Merle Haggard are country music legends known for their Bakersfield sound.

So brown! We’ve only seen this country in the winter months when it looks like Ireland.
