R&R in Rutherglen: The Big Wet

Today I treadled around town on the wonderfully light, unloaded bike until the rain was too heavy for comfort, then I took the brave decision to lash out and get a haircut. No ...it wasn’t $10 for the haircut and $20 for the search fee:)

Then it was time to move to more comfortable accommodation in preparation for my wife arriving by car this evening. We’ll have the weekend to sightsee NE Vic by car. The weather forecast is dire for the next two days. The new accommodation has a weather proof lockup shed for especially for bikes which is an ususal and welcome facility for a motel to offer.

Rutherglen has an excellent Visitor Information Centre where I spent almost an hour looking around and talking to the helpful staff.

It’s an olde worlde l, historic type of town with many conserved buildings from 1800s gold rush years. People come here for weekend getaways, weddings and wine tours.

A few pics from a very relaxing today of not much cycling.

Excellent place to call into on arrival in Rutherglen. Get all the goss here.

They are justifiably proud of their fortified wines. Ports, Muscats and Tokays.

At the Visitor Centre I discovered there is a short, very well used rail trail from Rutherglen to a nearby village called Wahgunyah. This months count of users was 1600.
