Dodging the Downpours: Off bike day tour of the Goulburn Valley

Very pleased that my wife arrived last night to meet me about 1/3 of the way into the tour to spend a couple of days sightseeing and relaxing in this very attractive area.

We spent today doing a day drive... yes drive, not ride... around the district which was drenched last night with record rains. There were closed highways and roads, evacuations and a lot of damaged crops over a wide area. Rutherglen where we are bunkered down wasn’t too badly affected, and we drove to the west where the rain was less heavy.

Highlights were lunch in a converted church cleverly renamed to Friars Cafe, visiting the rail trail village of Dookie and wine tasting at the wonderful Lake Moodemere Estate.

The day as it unfolded in pics:

Friars Cafe in Shepparton. Divine food in a converted church.

Lake Moodemere Estate winery near Rutherglen is beautifully located on Murray River wetlands. This is a floating golf tee. Very rare for a hole-in-one.:)
