Nice tour, thanks for all the info and pics!

I have a nephew in Palo Alto - don't have his address, though. But when I visited years ago, we took a neighborhood walk to see all the interesting and impressive homes. He's a carpenter and I think his home is impressive mainly on the inside.

Thanks Mike. Glad you enjoy the historical bits. I think I spend more time researching and fact-checking myself about these places than I take to do the ride, but I enjoy it.

I do enjoy all kinds of photography, but especially nature. I graduated from Arizona State in Tempe, AZ back in'69, but ended up working Civil Service as an Explosives Safety Manager. Retired Jan. 08, and since then have frequented cycle touring journals and doing what I'd loved to have been able to do as a career.

Interesting to see that someone counts my nature ID as an honor! Never thought of that. Thanks!

Ha! Didn't expect to get the honor of a Shaneyfelt ID. Thanks, Bill. Makes me rethink how great a neighborhood this is in.

Yes, it was because they thought it referred to heroin.

I lurved America. Soundtrack to my college years. They even came to my college on tour. Got to hear them play in the main gym, which had the acoustics of a garbage can.

I suspect its original subject had this name...

Of course I remember that song. It was big when I was released from the Army. It’s amusing to be reminded that the song was banned by some radio stations in America.

I agree with Janos and I'm glad I finally got to do the same job as you two. Loving the e-assist too. Again, following in your footsteps.

I see you are enjoying your retirement. As Janos says, it's the best job he ever had. And congrats on your motorized Pokey!

Yes, as of Thursday, 12/17/20. Before I left I was working on that pilot project to let in some non-residents but most of us old timers thought they should just rip off the band-aid. When I visited my buds on this ride we mostly talked about all the logistics of opening up that were "left to staff to determine." They were tired.

So, uh, in the wake of the lawsuit, is Foothills finally open to non-Palo Alto residents? You know, North Bay miscreants like moi. ;-)

I agree about the books. I had no idea about the books until I stopped and saw the steps and door. It was tempting to just hang out there. It's a pretty nice spot. I guess all the vegetable gardens were tapped out by this time. I would like to see all those things in Hastings sold here too.
