You are probably already in Ely, soaking up all of the amenities of town. My mother owned the movie theatre there until she passed. It's a former opera house. When she bought it, the place was still heated with coal! Mother upgraded to coal oil, the most modern choice available in Ely. No gas service for heaters available. That place was a money pit. There was always something to fix or upgrade. But, it's sure a beautiful building.

1 year agoYeah, I remember Rich.
He was crazier even than you.
Thanks George. Somehow I've been lucky enough to never have a cold on a bike tour until now. It seems to be winding down now, hopefully.
1 year agoThanks, Bob. I think the cold is almost over now. Today was the least-worst day so far
1 year agoThanks, Babs!
1 year agoThanks, John. Do you remember Rich Haubert? He would leave me in the dust. Crazy long days, and usually stealth camped. I don't think he's toured in a while, though.
1 year agoHaha, thanks. I've lost enough chub now that it fits right.
1 year agoI stayed at a boring traditional cheap motel instead, although the Clown Motel, despite problem being a tourist trap, was better located.

1 year agoI guess this is what you get when you take "the road less travelled"....

1 year agolooks like a Kona cruiser!
1 year agoJeff, I generally don't like reading people's bike blogs, but I do yours! It's almost like having a conversation with you, except only one of us is talking. And I love all the quirky things you take photos of. And I love the one of you in your TransAm jersey, and the Kona Brewpub Longboard jersey. Good luck on your trip, and I wish I could keep up--it would be fun to join you on a trip since Wil doesn't ride a bike on the road anymore (worsening eyesight!) Aloha from the Friesens!

Haha. I detest pickles, while my wife loves them. It's one of our jokey "feuds" in fact. I said something mean to her one time, and my punishment was that I had to drink pickle juice while she watched and laughed at my disgusted expression.
1 year agoShe must not have read this journal page yet, because we talked 20 minutes ago, and she didn't mention the photo.
