Our cycling trip begins: two bike rides and a train: From the Reitz home to Selingenstadt

We are excited to begin our journey. Cora will ride with us to Limburg. Riding in Hessen is quite beautiful and she knows the best routes to follow.

We have decided to take the train from Limburg to Frankfurt as it will help to make up the time that we have devoted to getting the bike fixed. We had planned to leave Sunday or Monday and it is now Tuesday.

The weather is fine and not too hot. That will help us as we have not been able to ride our bike fully loaded until now, and there will be a few hills to get over before Limburg.

We had a beautiful ride, said farewell to Cora and after an hour on the train, we were on the Main River following a superb bike route.

We say goodbye to Cora in Limburg

Cora and Georg helped us buy a new Garmin Oregon 600 when we were in Koblenz. They helped us download all of the Europe Openstreet maps that are designed with cyclists in mind. We love our new touch screen GPS

We struggled a bit finding a campground as our chosen site in Hanau is now private (and locked to cyclists), and the next few were on the other side of the river. This wouldn't have been a problem except that the ferries are not yet running.
A man touring on his motorcycle had tried to help us find a campground, but he finally told us to be sure to go in to Selingenstadt for a look at the town centre. So we did and it is quite lovely. We tried a few hotels, but found the prices too high for us - we eventually found Pension Kuhn nearby and they offered us a small apt. for 50 euros (including breakfast) and a hot dinner for 3 euros. We felt like we had hit the jackpot!
A good day of riding and start to our journey.

Our first castle on the Main River - and Mary Ellen is trying to learn how to use the Garmin!
