Hiking with Hoodoos

Down and around and back up, checking out the Hoodoos from the Fairyland trail and the Bristlecone Loop.  7+ miles and 1700 feet of elevation hiking today.  When we were up high we felt like we were on top of the world and could see forever.

We are staying at the western themed Quality Inn in Panguich UT, in the Wranglers building.   Our guides were all ready for us to make sandwiches at 7:30 am for a picnic lunch. Then we set off for breakfast and our hike in Bryce Canyon.

Breakfast at Kenny Rays in Panguich. Food was great and the town looked like a western set.

Once we got to Bryce, we hiked down from the fairyland viewpoint. Winding around to the canyon floor, then back up, then down, then up. We got up close and personal with some of the hoodoos and got to see wonderful vistas looking out over a garden of hoodoos, rock dunes, and amazing features.

Tower Bridge - so called because it resembles Tower Bridge in London

Natural bridge is actually misnamed as it is technically an arch. But it surely looks like a bridge. Bridges are formed by flowing water.

We saw lots of windows in the stone structures.

Wall Street is part of Bryce where the walls of the hoodoos are tall and close together with winding paths going through them.

The vistas were amazing, sometimes they were filled with hoodoos, sometimes with what looked like sand dunes, and other times with pine forests.

From the vista at the far end of Bryce we could see the stair step plateaus that extend to the Grand Canyon.

Sniffing a Ponderosa Pine! She swore that the bark smelled like butterscotch…..

The trees, both alive and dead are often twisted into unusual shapes that end up looking pretty arty.
