We Cycle Off the Mainland: Inverloch to Cowes

Day 13
Inverloch to Cowes
Thursday 4 October 2012

We decamped very early, called into Inverloch for a bakery breakfast then headed for Cape Paterson via a very quiet, very scenic coastal road. From Cape Paterson, it was a quick ride to Wonthaggi and morning tea at Megabites Cafe.

From Wonthaggi we picked up the Bass Rail Trail through to Anderson. This was an easy, enjoyable 16 km ride. From the Anderson end of the trail, progress was slightly tricky as the road to San Remo, though short and double-laned, was busy with an uphill start.

Nevertheless, in a reasonably short time we made it to San Remo, across the Phillip Island bridge on the separate bike-way and then onto the excellent Phillip Island bikeways through to Cowes and caravan park cabin accommodation.

From Cowes, we plan to catch the ferry across to the outer southern suburbs of Melbourne and then follow the Bay Trail to central Melbourne.

The weather forecast could see us hitting real wet weather for the first time on this trip.

Distance 67 km
Average 13 km/ hr
Maximum 40.3 km/ hr
5 hrs 9 mins riding

Predators and Prey on the trail. They weren't joking about magpie attack. We were hit several times a day. Helmets did their job well.No snakes sighted on the trail today. We'd seen quite a few in the previous days.
