In January 2013 a number of large bushfires burned through some of the area described in this journal.

In particular the Kybean range area east of Cooma and Numeralla was affected.

These won't affect the long term access to the areas, but the scenery will be different for a year or two.

The fires were also a reminder that the just about the entire route is through bushfire prone regions. Pre-tour and during tour, it'd be wise to check for bushfire warnings.

The section along the Barry Way to Buchan would be most worth assessing beforehand as communication is very limited in the deep valleys.
