On to Mainz: The end of the Rhine River route for us

We enjoyed staying at this campground.The internet was fast and reliable and the people were friendly.Our campsite had an excellent view of the Rhine river.

We are now on the opposite side of the Rhine. It appears to be very wide at this point.

We stumbled onto two of these book carts on the trail today. It was a fundraiser for a charity in Africa

Mary Ellen tried a new style of German "fast food". The sausage was delicious. However, my Curry Wurst was just a sausage covered in ketchup and a little curry powder added.

This fortress in Eltville had beautiful gardens and a fortified wall to explore.

It was a hot day - the bike is glad of a brief rest from the trail.

Barry is loving our new Panasonic FZ200 camera - can you tell? He disappeared for a long time taking photos.

Like the bike, Mary Ellen took advantage of the surroundings to have a rest too.

This statue caught our eye along the trail - we're not sure of the significance of her red nose or the small crown on her head.

We're camping across the river from Mainz - a good deal: only 13 euros and free, excellent hot showers. It is only a 20 minute walk across the bridge to Mainz. The first night we had a torrential downpour - but after that, we have enjoyed good weather.

Today's ride: 32 km (20 miles)
Total: 971 km (603 miles)
