That would have been nice to visit the shop; I love that show

5 years agoThe tight bridges scare me.
5 years agoBill,
I was apprehensive as I approached the bridge because I didn't realize it had been replaced (Google Maps still shows the old metal grated bridge and a very narrow road). When planning the trip, we debated whether it would be safe to ride to Sabula because of the bridge and narrow road. I had called a B&B in Sabula to inquire about lodging and road conditions. The lady there said lots of people cycled it and there was little traffic, but she didn't mention that the bridge was new. It was only because she said there was little traffic that we chose that route. With the new bridge and widened road it was a pleasant ride to Sabula.
It feels good to outrun nasty weather, but to outrun nothing but a few sprinkles and then have an afternoon of sunshine is an odd sort of letdown. It's more satisfying to get in just before a torrential downpour.
5 years agoNew bridge is only about a year old. The old one was a narrow metal grid, slick, and scary on a bike, especially for some who are afraid of heights, looking down through the grid at the water below.
5 years agoI left Savanna in 1984 after 7 years there. Not once did I ride my bike to work at the Army Depot (now closed) 10 miles north of town. There were no bike paths and the narrow winding road had blind curves with cliffside on one side and guard rails on the river side. Much has changed!
5 years agoWell done. Few things are more satisfying than outrunning nasty weather.
5 years agoFor sure! Do you suffer from a mid-ride curse?
5 years agoDefinitely!
5 years agoNow that’s the kind of dog encounter you like to have.
5 years agoI sympathize with you and have had the same thoughts with rides Scott has mapped out. I’m glad it wasn’t as hard as expected!
5 years agoWe enjoyed meeting you in Fulton. Safe biking. Hope to meet you again someday. We will follow your blog. Bob and Janet
5 years agoI think the 3 mile curse is preferable to the mid-ride curse!
