The name Bakeoven reveals what they were thinking and what to expect. Oregon is full of literal place names such as "big lake" and "little lake".

During this 2006 tour I used an old REI water sack and shower hose attachment. The plastic water bladder tended to acquire pinholes as I carried the heavy water bag through the brambles to a secluded shower spot. It takes longer for the sun to heat up a leaky bag because of evaporative cooling of the wet leaky bag. The last few years I used a Sea To Summit portable pocket shower which uses a more conventional rubber-coated roll-up 10 liter dry bag. It is more durable and less leaky, but is an ounce heavier. I liked it a lot, but haven't carried a shower since I quit camping. 2-3 gallon capacity was plenty for me to wash from head to toe including my hair.

Gravel roads are nice in that there's no traffic usually! :) Harder to ride, but worth it.

I have a friend who lives in Sandy, Oregon - she's one reason (besides the Bicycle Film Festival) that I came to visit Oregon. :)

I agree - bike touring is all about taking your time, seeing the sights, taking pictures, hiking, etc.! :)

Nice pic of the Multnomah Falls. :) I was in that area one time a number of years ago and hiked to some of the waterfalls. Lovely area! I attended the Bike Film Festival nearby.

What a name for a road -- "Bakeoven Road".

I read about Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh online and what happened. Crazy. Looks like he didn't live much longer after that event - died in 1990 at age 58 of congestive heart failure.

What is the name of your portable shower that you use to make showers? Just curious. How much water does it hold and does it work good?

I didn't know that each layer on the mountainsides are a different volcanic eruption - interesting! There are many ripples on the mountains - lots of eruptions!

Nice you got some fresh fruit along your bike ride - that's always refreshing! :)

Wow, at that price the ticket should include a free bratwurst at the top.
