david alston commented on A Leisurely Trip to Regensburg

Tricia and Ken,

The first time Maun and I left our bikes in storage in Paris we asked ourselves all those same "what if...?" questions. After getting tired of worrying about we decided just to do it and not give it any more thought. It has worked out both time and we would do it again in a heartbeat.

You have had a very good trip and we are looking forward to seeing how you get to Munich. Good luck and safe travels!

We really are so lucky to be doing this. The weather! We had the same clear blue skies and chilly beginning. It is supposed to be warmer here tomorrow, a high of 24, so I may be peeling off some layers.

They were very firm about NO recording. Think you have to have listened to a bit of organ music to really enjoy it - Ken has a fair knowledge of organ music so he particularly enjoys it. Those organs certainly fill the cathedral and you can really feel the low notes

Glad you made it and glad you enjoyed the recital. We are actually two for three in terms of making it on time for the concert. The crowds and having to buy a ticket on our last visit was a surprise to us as well. Still, the recital was part of a very enjoyable visit to Passau. Happy travels,

At first I was a little disappointed that you did not try to record the organ today. But then I realized there must be zillions of posts for this on Youtube. Certainly after I tried hard to record the singing at the cathedral in Santiago, I found many much better recordings online. Here is one Youtube that shows a lady actually playing the Passau organ(s): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLeVE8PCq6Y

I must admit, though they seem to play many different selections in these concerts, it comes across in the end as noise. Maybe if I already knew the "tunes". Or perhaps it's the fault of the 2" speaker in my computer!

On some bikes those stands are very securely bolted into the frame, but on others there can be no end of trouble, ending in broken bolts. Even with the style the man is installing in the photo, there are many levels of sturdiness. Good luck with this one.

Now in Passau and very comfortable. I know you have spent time in Munich - any suggestions where to stay, we seem to like the same hotels

Once again we just might have stayed in the same hotel, the Ibis in Linz. But when we were there it was 27 degrees in our room even with the AC doing its best according to the manager. Not our best Ibis night.

It was in Linz that we discovered the Thalia bookstore chain and we have spent ours in them ever since.

Sorry you had a cold ride, we can imagine how good the shower felt.
