Greg,
So, you're just now checking out the leftovertures ;-)
Jeff
I was reading my journal today, including all the comments. I couldn't believe I didn't get your references to a couple songs by the band Kansas when I originally responded to you. A month and a half too late, I get them now. Just had to let you know.
1 week agoI get that, given your style of touring.
4 weeks agoOh man, I can't believe I forgot to work a headstand in there somewhere. I must be slipping.
The Wizard of Oz scared the crap out of me as a kid too. At least seeing it again helped provide some closure to that traumatizing experience--and it also reassured me that Dorothy didn't actually have, as you've noted, a double chin and a stick up her arse. (Hilarious)
It is good that you have a happy home to return to in a complicated time in US history. I did miss seeing you do a headstand somewhere in KS though. I envisioned you balancing just in front of an electric fence with a cow licking your shoe :-) Definitely a very nice tour, at least for one where no pasties were involved.
I can't imagine going to see the movie, though, as it freaked me out big time as a kid and I'm not sure I want to see it as an adult and form different ideas... some memories are just best left alone, I think.
Now, all I can think of was that Dorothy with the double chin and the stick up her arse.
4 weeks agoHmmm... I don't ever think about what I'm going to write until I sit down with my journal in the evening. Over here, I'm often thinking about 'where I am going to find water'. And the mtn bike tours, I'm usually concentrating hard enough on the road conditions and grade that I'm not thinking about much else.
4 weeks agoThat's a nice bit of conglomerate above your head. I think you had enough wind adversity on this trip to chalk up plenty of Type II fun. I think you made the most of the conditions and I am very glad that the greatest weather adversity was wind and a bit of rain. KS in April and May has the potential for much weather-related disaster.
4 weeks agoThe answer is Gene Wilder, and the others are not even close.
1 month ago...Just wondering: are you more Clint Eastwood than John Wayne, or maybe going back a bit, Henry Fonda (My Darling Clementine) or Alan Ladd (Shane)... or perhaps Gene Wilder in Blazing Saddles?
Shoot!
Why not? That could have been the “ trailer” for the 🎥!!😂
1 month agoNo way was I going to show myself stuffing popcorn into my mouth.
1 month agoThank you, Mark. Now that I'm done, I can try to catch up on your entertaining journal.
1 month agoThanks George. Actually, I got pretty lucky with the Kansas weather, aside from those two headwind days. The rainy day wasn't so bad, and I think I did this tour early enough in the year that there was no oppressive heat. There were threats of severe storms every day for the first week, but they never materialized. So, I guess you could call me an "ersatz Kansas weather survivor."

Got that one too. Nice!
