I'll join the chorus of congratulators. As always, I enjoyed your fun and breezy journaling style.

Jacinto should ride his Rohloff bike next time!

4 days agoCongratulations! It is always with mixed feelings went a tour is complete. We enjoyed following along. I hope the boxing of the bikes and your journey home goes smoothly. We look forward to the final post.
4 days agoWe both had to laugh at Jacinto coasting back down on the climb so he could ride all the way up to make up for his walking to the top! Way to go guys - you are such strong riders!
6 days agoLooks yummy and well worth the calories you burned off on the climb!

6 days agoJacinto was watching an online video from a Mexican woman living in Germany who was giving pointers. When the tipping 5-10% thing came up, I googled it. Which confirmed the amount for both Austria and Germany.
It was also specific about not leaving cash on the table, but adding it to the credit card. In the USA, I get cash special for tipping. We very, very seldom eat out if not traveling, so my cash lasts a long time.
Good one!

1 week agoIf you made the reservation with booking.com contact them with the complaint. They may be able to give you a partial refund or a credit in your "wallet" or a "goodwill" amount for your inconvenience. In all our travels in Germany and Austria we have not found there to be a tipping culture. Who told you this? They may have been playing you for gullible tourists?

A fantastic adventure, I enjoyed following along. You finished about 250 miles southeast of the Weisbaden-Mainz area, which is where I worked during much of 2019. I loved biking along the Rhine river every weekend - parts of my bike routes were along Euro Velo 6 (best as I recall), and I remember thinking how great it would be to ride that whole route - perhaps that will be your next adventure? Best wishes and safe travels home
