Still courting
This year's plan is to cycle around the Midwest at a relaxed pace. We're looking for attractive small towns where we can spend several days doing loop rides and enjoying the flavor of the community. Kerry suggested that we try county seats, as they might have nice downtowns and places to stay. It will be fun to seek out the county courthouses. Since we have just celebrated our golden wedding anniversary, I said then we'd still be courting. So, our theme was born - "Courthouse Tour 2024 - 50 years and still courting".

Jeanna & Kerry SmithTo Scott AndersonThanks, Scott. When we started talking about not riding to a different place everyday day, your names came up. I said your and Rachel's staying a few days in most places sounded very appealing. I think we will like this more relaxed format. It will also be good for arranging not to need to ride in the rain!

Jeanna & Kerry SmithTo Kelly IniguezThanks, Kelly. We thought it was a bit better than the other option "Senior Citizens on Tour". We'll look forward to following your trip as well. Are you taking the green bike?

Jeanna & Kerry SmithTo Jeff TeelWe're never short on ideas - some much better than others :)
We'll be in northeast Illinois the first week of July. Maybe we can meet up on purpose this time.

Kelly IniguezTo Jeanna & Kerry SmithYes to taking the green bike. It's been for an oil change and a tune up. I just got back home yesterday. I've told Jacinto our project is to practice taking the wheel off/on. Between the Rohloff and the disc brake (plus worrying if I can get the tire off), it's an intimidating set up for me.
Today I rode Rifle Gap/Harvey Gap. That's one of my favorite local climbing rides. I had a gusting cross wind on the downhill, which was a shame, but I was comfortable with how the bike handled - so that's a relief.

Jeanna & Kerry SmithTo Rich FrasierWe've had a couple of milestones recently. Not only did we reach our golden anniversary, we also both moved into a new decade of life. Being 70 and still rolling is just as good as being married 50 years and still courting!

Ken GassGreat jersey & plan, with no meticulously devised itinerary and map display. Hmm, I can't imagine Kerry doesn't have it mapped out somewhere!

Jeanna & Kerry SmithTo Liz ReddingKerry is going to make a roster of all the courthouses we visit. He'll post a picture and some information about each one under the Courthouses entry. (I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he also feels compelled to make a courthouse spreadsheet :))

Jeanna & Kerry SmithTo Alain AbbateComfort of your couch? No long distance hikes this summer? No worries, though. A comfortable couch is a great place for courting!
