Day 69 - Glendo to Douglas

Heart 1 Comment 0

We left very early again to get to our hotel before it got too hot.  I'm looking forward to mornings when we can choose between leaving at 9 or 10.

The Glendo Reservoir is just outside Glendo. It is a popular lake for boating and fishing. It was created by a dam on the North Platte.

We rode Hwy 87 which parallels I-25.  A rail line runs between the two roads much of the way.

A big cut to build I-25

There was a sign on the road warning of heavy truck traffic ahead. This is the reason. There was a large rock quarry.

This tree was striking with it's bark missing leaving the bright white trunk.

Near the end of the ride, we stopped under an I-25 overpass to rest and cool off.  We saw these nests under the bridge.  I think they are cliff swallow nests.  I didn't get a picture of any birds.

And are these the remains of old nests?

Bill ShaneyfeltYes. Swallow nests.

We saw this structure in the distance. Kerry said it was probably a weather station.

Weather station?? I say alien landing pad!
Heart 2 Comment 2
Paul KriegThat is a VHF Omni-Directional Range/Tactical Air Navigation (VORTAC) antenna. Aircraft navigation aid and is also used for distance measuring so aircraft can determine how far they are from a particular VORTAC.

Jeanna & Kerry SmithTo Paul KriegSo alien landing site was a much closer guess than weather station! Thanks, Paul

We're going to stay here in Douglas for three nights and have a little break.  Tomorrow we're going to visit a couple of museums - more wagons and more trains.

Today's ride: 30 miles (48 km)
Total: 2,660 miles (4,281 km)
