Day 115 - Montezuma to Amana

Last night, after we posted the journal entry, we walked into town to eat.  The owner of our motel suggested Yolanda's for Mexican food.  At Yolanda's, Kerry decided to try the lengua burrito.  Lengua is beef tongue.  It was not bad, but he said he doubted he would order it again.  Montezuma was a decent little town with a courthouse square so common in Iowa.

The motel owner had told me on the phone that he had a side by side tandem.  He got it out to show us.

A pair of Sun Easy Classics with the factory conversion kit.

Today's ride started with the same type of terrain we had yesterday - rolling hills, one after the other.  But, we didn't have any grade greater than 6% and after 20 miles, the terrain leveled out with only a few hills.

More climbing this morning!

Wind turbines "growing" in rolling Iowa fields. They grow a lot of these here!

Our first break was at a travel plaza off I-80.  This pulled in just as we were leaving.

Is it a stunt plane?

Jeanna & Kerry SmithTo Bill ShaneyfeltYou are such a font of information! Kerry's uncle and cousin, both pilots, used to attend a big fly in at Oshkosh every year. That is probably the same event.

When I first saw this in the distance, I was sure it was a flag waving Iowan standing outside to greet us.

We got close before we realized this was a stuffed Iowan.

Near the town of Marengo, we crossed the Iowa River.

As with so many of the waterways we've seen on this trip, the water level looks low,

The Amana Corporation was founded here in the Amana colonies. Whirlpool now owns Amana appliances. This is an Amana refrigeration factory.

This small lake in Amana is aptly named. It's called Lily Pond.

We're staying in a very nice hotel tonight.  It's called the Hotel Millwright and is in a recently renovated woolen mill.

There are machines and artifacts from the mill throughout the hotel.

The rooms are clustered around large, open seating areas.

The rooms are very large, we rolled the bike right with room to spare.

We enjoy having a room we can walk around in without having to maneuver around the bike. This one is perfect.
