Gyeongju: Sight seeing

A late lie in plus a few hours work meant we only got out and about at around ten am. First call was the supermarket around the corner for some breakfast then it was onto the Cheomseongdae observatory, circa 640 AD, which doesn't appear to be much more than a tidy stone pillar. Still, it was a good place to have breakfast.

Then we cycled slowly down to the museum via the Gyerim forest, the old houses of the apparently benevolent Choe family and the archaeological excavations currently taking place at the old fort and palace.

The first port of call at the museum was the sacred bell.

The museum itself provides an accessible account of the rise and fall of the Sill dynasty which united most of what is modern Korea and lasted almost an entire millennium. Well worth a visit particularly considering that entry is free of charge.

A stroll around the major burial mounds late in the afternoon, including one that provides access into the center of the tomb, before a an early night.
