Rosendal

The socks that helped us go to Rosendal.

After leaving at about nine thirty we had two kilometers of the N5 to negotiate before we turned southwards to Rosendal.  That short time was enough to convince me that we had made a good decision because it was as frenetic this morning as it was yesterday.

Escaping the N5.

Twenty odd kilometers of rather rough dirt road lay ahead of us, mostly a gentle uphill.

Very rough at times.

At the top of the climb was a farm named "Heelbo" which translates as "right at the top".

Then a gentle downhill to the tarred road that runs between Senekal and Ficksburg.

Once we hit the tarred road it was a gentle ride to Rosendal, another ten kilometers or so further on.  The road was in pretty poor condition which kept motorized traffic's speed down to an acceptable level and the last few kilometers we enjoyed an unexpected bonus of a wide shoulder.  All in all, an enjoyable day's ride.

There is apparently a big mountain bike here in Rosendal tomorrow so all the accommodation has been booked up.  All we could get was a place that has recently re-opened (it seems that we are first paying guests) that is far more upmarket to what we are accustomed but even though we are paying more than twice the price we would normally, it still seems good value for money.
