Hofmeyr - The tenth step ... SISA Episode II - CycleBlaze

Hofmeyr

We had a relaxed and comfortable evening at Shanks farm which lies about seven kilometers east of Steynsburg.  We set off rather late again this morning, only getting away after nine thirty.  Leaving an hour earlier would have meant we would not have had to face the  wind that we battled with over the last hour of today's ride.  In the early mornings the wind has recently been blowing gently from the north but then swings in an anti-clockwise direction as thee day progresses and by midday we have faced winds from the south-west.  None the less, we had a very enjoyable ride in nice weather on a good road.

Hofmeyr is a humble little town and our accommodation for the night is pretty crappy but there aren't any other options apart from a smart looking, newly renovated boutique hotel.  Tomorrow we are back on dirt roads again as we head for Tarkastad.

Leaving Shanks farm this morning.

Once we had turned off the road between Steynsburg and Middelburg and started heading southwards we crested a short climb and were treated to a great downhill to the plain that stretched out before us.

Teebus and Koffiebus as seen from the east. We had views from the other side a month before.

A scene that encapsulates so much of a rural trunk road in South Africa - a road side picnic spot, a windmill and an open road.

Not too sure about this one.
