Castelsardo Layover

The Mistral was showing its might this morning, blowing at 40 kmh with gusts to 66kmh from the west, which happens to be the exact direction we are heading on this loop of Sardinia. Harrumph!

We migrated to the top floor of the hotel for the breakfast buffet. These buffets seem to be getting larger but so then are our appetites.

It didn’t take long to decide that today would be a rest day, time to do some laundry, watch the Giro d’Italia, stroll a little more around the castle and strategize about the next two weeks. Giuseppe was happy to give us a seaview room, so we were all set.

The central piazza here is round. It’s a great place for kids to ride their bikes around and kick a soccer ball. Those arches are actually light standards.

Scott AndersonTo Keith ClassenThat was my thought too looking at this. It’s clear which way the mistral blows here.

Beautiful sculpture in the centre of the piazza.

This represents the average car size over here. Otherwise, it can be a real pain to navigate through town.

Patty BarronThat would be our Smartie’s Italian cousin! 😲

Gazania thrives here. Loves sunshine and warmth....and the occasional watering by a passing pooch.

Houses are all painted warm colours from yellow to ochre. No blues or cool colours in sight.

That is one giant asparagus!! Well, not really. It’s a flower stock of the agave.

Watch your step as you go under the arch.

The exteriors of the buildings have changed little over the years.

Unusual clock tower for the church which dates back to 1503.

A cute sign for the animals...as if they could read.

Patty BarronThe full translation is quite hilarious, if you look at the signs with 🐈, & 🐕!

Pizza is always good. Especially when they serve it with large beers.

The wind is supposed to calm down tomorrow, so we will get on the road again and head for the most westerly tip of Sardinia at Stintino.
