Boxing Day Venice

Bike boxes in Mestre, lunch in Lidl.

Task for the day: find bike boxes. Michael has contacted Bike Project in Mestre, we just have to get there.

MapsMe identify bike paths better than Google, and the plotted route is a happy ride to Via Trieste. Lunch time closing is imminent, so a prompt exchange of 24 euros for two new boxes ensues. A little pricey perhaps-we paid 8 euros in Nice in 2016, but its possible we will be able to reuse them on our next trip. The mechanic loosens the bike pedals to facilitate easy dismantling later, while Michael and I fold the boxes with practised ease.

Bike boxes from Breda Cicli in Mestre for a charge of 12 euros.

The afternoon activity has Ann cleaning the cycles and Michael prepping the boxes. It's a slick operation.

Final sort out- Nice to have space.

There's a Lidl across the road, which gives Michael a chance to use his slogan : " A lidl goes a long way. " Here we find a ready supply of yogurt, milk and staples we have missed- like butter! Lidl, in Italy continues their bizarre shelving habit- jam in 3 different places, wine in at least 2. Can't complain about prices though- melons and nectarines at rock (no pun intended) bottom prices and dairy the same.

Chalet 6 has a hot plate , pots, pan and a fridge, so dinner is no problem. Michael- dinner in fact is a culinary delight, as always!

Today's ride: 22 km (14 miles)
Total: 4,087 km (2,538 miles)
