Corvara in Badia

We were thrilled to wake up to sunshine and views of the Dolomite peaks outside our window this morning. Today’s route had a douzy of a climb and while we are carrying wet weather gear, a strip climb/descent is not when I want to use it.

This is going to be photo journal today because I’m pretty tired and the internet is showing signs of weakness.

In a nutshell, our plan to ride from San Vito di Cadore through Cortina, up the Falzarego Pass and down to Corvara got extended by 11k and 240m of climbing due to some unannounced road construction. We discovered this when we summited the Falzarego and were fully expecting to coast down to Corvara for 20k. Unfortunately, Google showed no signs of the deviation, which I expect have been in place for quite some time. But, there was no doubt from the signs with large red X’s through them, nobody was taking that road to Corvara. So, after some chocolate and cookies, off we went towards Arraba. From there we would have another pass to climb, the Campolongo.

This is some of the most beautiful scenery we ever have seen. To be part of it feels very special. My rewards, besides summitting the climb is seeing the alpine flowers. They are out in full force. So, without further a-do, here are the photos from today.

Balcony view and weather check.

Patty BarronAll of the flower pics are gorgeous! Your pic of the meadow gives a fairly good idea of just how stunning it must be in real time.

Tomorrow is Sella Ronda Day, it’s when cars are not allowed on the 53kmloop over four passes between 8:30 and 4:30. We will be out there with the othe 20,000 or so crazies on bikes. Wish us luck,
