Porto in the rain: A massive thunder storm laults progress for today

There was a massive thunder storm in the night. Woke again at 5 still thunder and lightning and torrential rain. Woke again at 8 – more of the same so I got up and went down and booked us in for another night, it wasn’t weather to start cycling in. Back to sleep again and we eventually woke at around 10am – struggled out of bed and went out and got some breakfast. What to do for the day? Walking around wasn’t a particularly good option so we decided on the’ hop on’’ hop off’ bus – the circuit takes around 2hours. We ‘hopped on’ and soon all the inside seats were full but more got in. There was a lull in the rain so they bravely went upstairs. With all the damp air and heavy breathing the windows soon fogged up and it was difficult to make out what the commentary was telling us. Then the rain started in earnest again so down they came from upstairs and the poor things had to stand, more damp air to add to the fog and the water that was pouring into the open top came down the stairs and flowing down the aisle. The good humour of everyone was amazing. Some ‘hopped off‘ but there was no way we were going to so we sat there all the way to the beginning after 2hours

Ken invested in an umbrella and we went to McDonalds for lunch – it looked so dry. Then back to our room where I finished the book I have been reading on my Kindle. Everything seems to have settled a lot now and on our recent walk we weren’t rained on once. The forecast is slightly better tomorrow promising us only frequent showers so hopefully we will get under way again.

It was a good day to sell umbrellas
