Yes, I will resume my cross country bike tour

After my bike accident I:

  • Sat and did nothing for 6 weeks and watched my muscles atrophy
  • Did 4 months of intensive PT at a PT office with work to do at home everyday
  • Did 3 months of work with a sports psychologist to get over the trauma
  • Did 3.5 months of work with a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with lots of stretching and weight training 3 days a week
  • Started back with spin classes at the end of October working my way to the point where I could keep up with the instructor in terms of cadence and in/out of saddle
  • With the weather being warm, have gotten out on multiple long outdoor rides including several 25 milers, one 34 miler with over 1,300ft of ascent, and several 40-50 milers with one ride having 3,850 feet of ascent

Given all of this, I have decided to resume my cross country bike tour. I will be starting in Sonora, KY on May 17th which is just west of where I had my accident. This puts a finish date in Astoria, OR the last week of July. Great to be alive, great to be back biking.

George HallThat is fantastic news! I will be following along and rooting for you. You have ridden the most challenging physiographic part already, but there are still many challenges and adventures ahead on your journey. Your perseverance is an inspiration for us all - I hope to emulate it later in my own way. I'm envious of your upcoming adventure and wish you the best of luck.

David HendersonTo Rich FrasierRich,
Just read through a few of your journals and your tandem rides with Robin are a delight. I have met two tandem riders on my journeys. One was on the GAP trail in Pennsylvania. The couple had ridden from the Olympic peninsula in Washington across the country and had planned on going to DC then heading south to Miami. The second couple I met within the two weeks last summer where I attempted to cross the country. I kept in touch with them and they made it to Astoria, OR in August. Keep riding and enjoying yourselves
