Caselmaggiore - Munich to Paris the Long Way Round - CycleBlaze

Caselmaggiore

A cooler start

We are staying tonight in a 4 star hotel so of course there is a problem with the internet- it won’t connect to my tablet so without a keyboard this will be short

When we left the hotel this morning it was only 22 degrees  It felt wonderful riding along at this temperature.  Being Sunday the traffic was light but at shortly after 7 there were lots of people out enjoying the early morning cool

For a lot of the way the track was rather different today not just powering along high above the plain. Today there were obviously pig farms around - we could smell them.  We also saw barns with moos coming  from so this  settled the mystery as to where all this hay and silage was going  There was a wonderful shady path beside the river for quite a while.  Lots of people from the nearby town.  There were bars which looked enticing but they were all shut

Further along we came to an old factory that had been turned into a bar AND it was open. A great coffee. Just before the long scary bridge was an antique fair.  With thoughts of the lovely Limogé dish I got on a previous trip in we went but it was all junk.  Ken said he saw lots of useful things but it looked like rubbish to me

Steve Miller/GrampiesThey do seem to really love their junk sales all over Europe. Don't think we have EVER found a single thing we were interested in.

The hotel when we neared it is clearly for car travellers on busy roads.  We can’t eat here except breakfast and there are no restaurants within easy reach but we did have a great stroke of luck.  We arrived here at 10.55. Being Sunday they close and lock up from 11 to 5 (the temperature was now 35 and rising). She let us in (somewhat reluctantly). She assured us that there was no food available anywhere on a Sunday - but Ken had spotted an Apperto Dominica sign along the road and set off ( he had found a cunning way to get back in through the garage).  Yes there was a supermarket open till 12.30 down are not starving, in fact for once we had something for lunch

It is certainly had to avoid losing weight on this trip.  Sometimes we are too hot to eat but most of the time we can’t get our hands on anything. Tonight it will be bread, cheese, peaches and a bottle of Barbera.  We are both trying to drink enough fluids

Dreadful slow internet probably haven’t got the photos on?

Today's ride: 41 km (25 miles)
Total: 871 km (541 miles)

Jack WatsonCaught up with your journal again this evening! Wonderful photos, I especially liked the ones taken on the Lido. 32 years since we were in that part of the world, it seems like little changes. And the daily temperatures sound like Heaven. The weather here is vile!
