Suzzara

The extreme heat continues

Even getting away as early as we do doesn’t really beat the heat because at 7.30 it was approaching thirty degrees

We were straight back on to the track and  our movement made a little bit of cooling breeze.  We continues on from one proud clock tower to another.  The agriculture was very similar to yesterday but today I saw Kiwi fruit and sugar beet.  Hay making is in full swing and there was pasture drying everywhere and busy tractors tedding it.  They must be expecting this hot weather to continue.  Another difference where the number of plantations of poplars, the young ones were very well trimmed but the older ones not so.

All sorts of power

Ken had felt yesterday that I just kept plowing on and never stopping but I was better today.  We stopped at Revere at 9am for coffees - the locals were just starting to come in and the Pizza man was working on his dough. At Gorgo we stopped again this time for Fanta and to sit in the warm shade for a while

Our hotel was a bit off route tonight so we had to leave the river bank,  We did of course have good instructions on Koomot but the roads were quite busy and there was a lot of industry - Ken was interested to see an Iveco factory.  We were led right to our hotel in the square in Suzzana where they were packing up the market.  The hotel had a big sign Apperto but when I tried the door it was locked.  We sat in the shade for a while, then I saw a man going in and I followed him, he had no English and refused to believe we had a reservation.   I called the phone number listed and “Un minuto”. I sat and waited  then up drew a car.  He was so eager to please and I was completely overcome by a torrent of Italian.  We are in our lovely cool room (I am only booking hotels with air cond) and the distance tomorrow not as far.

Today's ride: 69 km (43 miles)
Total: 830 km (515 miles)
