Another day ride from Chania

The second of our day rides from Chania was even better than the first. Starting again to the west along the Gulf of Chania, we turned south and inland at Gherani first to Manioliopulou again, and then east, southeast and up through Koufos, Alikianos, Fournas and Lakki. Lakki, a village 1700 feet up atop a ridge below the White Mountains, made a great lunch stop before the even more strenous and dramatic ride back to Chania. After retracing our ride and dropping back again to Fournas we climbed up the next ridge to the east through Meskla and Zouvra, peaking out around 2300 feet; and then dropped back through the dramatic and beautiful Therrison Gorge. From Meskla on the ride was particularly fine, climbing a paved one lane road that felt like an oversized bike path.
