Day 9 - to Ramada Inn, Cumberland MD

Miles: 43, Ascent: 1,318, Descent: 2,554

A beautiful day for a ride with full sun and high in the upper 60s. Said goodbye to PA and entered MD reaching the end of the GAP trail

Meyers graveyard. Many members of this family were buried long before the railroad arrived in 1911

Eastern continental divide. Water falling to the west of the divide flows to the Gulf. To the east it flows to the Atlantic

Pittsburgh to the right, Cumberland to the left. I have been riding a steady 2% uphill grade until I reached the Eastern Continental Divide and then it was all downhill to Cumberland

The Great Savage Tunnel which is a whopping 3,300 feet long. The temperature outside was 68 degrees. As soon as I entered the tunnel it dropped to 54 degrees and of course my GPS lost its satellite

Kath LevA cousin of mine went to Frostburg State College. I remember riding in the car up that steep, narrow, winding mountain valley, to visit her (50 years ago), that you have just traveled down. Wheeeee!
