Petchaburi - a daytrip to Pak Thale

We set off for Pak Thale at about 6:30 and, despite a strong wind, had an easy flat ride on a quiet road. We had hoped to do some serious birdwatching at the saltpans at Pak Thale but the strong wind made it all but impossible. Nonetheless, we had a good time, particularly with Annop Deng, the manager of the birding center at the salt pans who kindly gave us lots of advice and tips. We had a long chat with him at the center enjoying some ice cold water. Birding alongside the road was more succesful than at the salt pans and the ride there and back produced some good sightings for us.

After we got back to Petchaburi, we had some noodle soup for lunch, wandered around photographings wats and ended up back at JJ Home for a cold beer. We tried unsuccessfully to find a gas canister for our stove - I guess we can try again when passing through Bangkok or in Chiang Mai.

Leigh is struggling with a bit of a cold but if she well enough, we plan head off to Samarn Bird Camp at Kaeng Krachan National Park tomorrow, a 70 km ride, probably into a headwind in hot conditions, so we are resting up for the afternoon.

Today's ride: 39 km (24 miles)
Total: 134 km (83 miles)
