Saumur to Gennes: Easy day in the saddle

Today we decided to have a short, relaxing day. We biked through the streets of Saumer in the morning, dodging cars and shoppers. We stopped three times for expresso, visiting with fellow cyclists, each time. My kind of morning.

Our route today took us mostly along the river, through some of the most beautiful small villages that we have seen so far. We arrived in Gennes early afternoon. There is not much here for accommodation, but we stopped at a great looking chateau-B&B, which was, unfortunately full. The good news was, the owner had a house not too far away, that she doesn't usually rent for just one night, but made an exception. It is quite lovely, and the best part, there is a washing machine! I'm a happy camper!

Tomorrow we are leaving the Loire, and heading towards Vendee, to visit our good friend Christian for a couple of weeks. Just kidding....We are really looking forward to the visit with him.

We stopped and toured a cave that had a restaurant inside. They grew their own mushrooms and raised snails.

Wine tasting in the cold cave. Three glasses of wine, and then you peddle much faster!
