The Route as Planned

This fall's tandem tour is covering some familiar territory for assiduous CycleBlaze readers.  Prepare yourself for yet another journal covering a bike ride in the Dolomites.

This one might be a little different, though.  We won't be climbing any major passes on this ride.  We're full of admiration for the mountain goats among us, but it's not within our abilities.

Instead, we're going to find the easiest way possible to explore this beautiful area of Italy.  We expect to spend most of the ride on bike paths, with occasional forays onto the road when required.

We'll start and finish in Trento, which we've used as a base before.  We started and finished there we rode over the Alps in 2022, so we know the area pretty well.  We'll get to Trento by car, transporting a decoupled Schnooks in the back of our car.  We'll leave the car in a covered car park in Trento while we ride.

Our route is a clockwise loop that will include Bozen/Bolzano, Brixen/Bressanone, Brunick/Brunico, Cortina, Belluno, and Feltre.  We're planning several rest days so that we can do some exploring on foot.  This is a shorter tour than what we've been doing lately because we're sneaking it in between some unavoidable commitments at home.

Our equipment is unchanged from this year's Spring tour.   Schnooks is our coupled titanium Chinook Tandem.  We use Ortleib roll-top bags, Sena intercom bike helmets, Wahoo bike computers, and a random collection of paraphernalia that we've accumulated from previous trips.

Accommodations will be in hotels, and we'll eat in local restaurants.

After seeing all of the beautiful pictures of this area, we're looking forward to experiencing it for ourselves!

Kirsten KaarsooThat will be a marvellous route! look out for the free bus passes many hotels offer. The access they allow to many of the high Alpine area’s in and around the Val Gardena / Alta Badia region is fantastic

Scott AndersonYawn. Yes, we do get so tired of seeing those tired old Dolomites gain. Nevertheless, we'll follow along.

Rich FrasierTo Susan CarpenterSusan, I hope it's not too boring for you. I stole a lot of the route from your last trip through the region!
