Walden Pond

Nipmuc lands

We circumambulated Walden Pond counter clockwise. As I did around the burned out Nortre Dame in Paris, and the Cathedral of Saint James in Compostela, Spain. The Pond is holy water for all with a nod towards the Transcendental. To immerse oneself in it's water is to share baptismal rites with a 19th century sage and immortal.

Smoke

Henry David Thoreau 1817 – 1862

Light-winged Smoke! Icarian bird, Melting thy pinions in thy upward flight; Lark without song, and messenger of dawn, Circling above the hamlets as thy nest; Or else, departing dream, and shadowy formOf midnight vision, gathering up thy skirts; By night star-veiling, and by day Darkening the light and blotting out the sun; Go thou, my incense, upward from this hearth, And ask the gods to pardon this clear flame.

Looks to be a garter snake. Not venomous. The ones we have in Oregon eat slugs and are welcome in the garden.

Bill ShaneyfeltLooks like maybe a garter snake, but not enough photo detail to be sure.
