Un peu de Perpignan - Being Alive - CycleBlaze

Un peu de Perpignan

Days 31-34 - rest days Perpignan

We have had a nice few days rest here in Perpignan. Well, mostly nice - poor Lulu has been a bit unwell which has resulted in us staying an extra day. Luckily it didn't last and she is feeling better already. It was great to see a familiar face and to have another person to talk to! Sarah and I don't really argue or anything but it can feel like you're going a bit loopy only socialising with one other person!

Perpignan is a nice mix and we have had time to see some of its variety - beautiful old town and attractions, tourists, students, trendy bars, homeless, graffiti, and the failings of the internal post service (it's a long story).

The number one attraction is an old house (now hotel) decorated in the extravagant art nouveau style, which was built by a cigarette rolling papers magnate. Sounded a bit lame, and in pictures it looks a bit tacky, but I loved it! Marble everywhere, paintings, statues, chandeliers, wood panelling, etc.

City rivers often have waterside walkways right next to them, very nice!

We've seen a lot of blossom and we are going to see a lot more, I feel!

This is part of a 14th century castle built by the Mallorcan empire. Took decades to build, completed, short lived empire collapsed immediately.

Tomorrow we move on to phase three of our journey! We plan to head to the coast and follow eurovelo 8 all the way into Italy. Despite being dubbed the "Mediterranean route", once it actually gets to Italy it doesn't see the sea again until it's almost in Slovenia. A bit weird but we'll see how it goes! At least we'll get some French seaside first.
