Mi dispiaci

Day 43 - Albenga to Alessandria (by train)

Day 44 - Alessandria to near Pavia (68km)

Day 45 - near Pavia to Cremona (119km 🥵)

Day 46 - Cremona to near Casalmaggiore (65? km)

Mi dispiaci, non parlo italiano - that's about the extent of my Italian! But I'm sorry for not updating the blog for a while.

We've been having a really good time! Italy may be my favourite country so far: the landscape is very beautiful, it's full of ancient and interesting towns and sights, the food and drink are obviously good, but it's the people, and the way our lack of local lingua has mostly been overcome with friendliness, grace, and good humour (and, to be truly honest, a fair bit of English) that has really won me over.

Lots of trees planted like this, I think most were maples(?).

Scott AndersonPoplar saplings, I think. They’re grown all along the Po for pulp.

We've been cycling mostly on the ciclovia del Po, along the river of the same name, on the high gravel or tarmac flood defences. We've also wild camped and stayed with an incredibly kind and generous host family from warmshowers!

We've also gotten stuck in an outskirt industrial park of Piacenzo, and cycled 119km in day, without really wanting to - our second longest ever.

Spiral staircase tower?

Bill ShaneyfeltA wall lizard genus Podarcis, but not enough detail to tell the species.

Likely either common wall lizard or Italian wall lizard would be my guess.
