Purit Buntar, David's place: Last day

This is our last day with David. Today the plan is to go to Taiping about 50km South of here. We drive off at about 8am. David's twin sons join us today.

First stop is at Lake Town, a huge planned development on a large lake. There are mostly second homes set in the hills around the lake. Some McMansions on the islands and even some condos on stilts in the lake. In the center of all this is an amusement park, mini zoo and water park. Bus loads of Malaysian school kids are trucked in as we scope out the place and leave.

Next stop the Taiping zoo, second only to the KL. It's actually pretty nice by Asian standards. We are mostly interested in the SE Asian animals: Orangutan, iguana, lizards, tiger, elephant, hornbill bird, wild pig and a Malaysian bull with huge horns so wide it would barely fit on a Cadillac.

Another fun thing to watch is the school children that are visiting this morning. There are large groups of Chinese, Indian and Malay kids all herded around by their teachers. It's getting hot by the time we are done, and it's also lunch time. We go to a food court in the old bus station, David orders clay pot noodles with prawns for us. Nice to have a guide, we have been exposed to many different foods by him. A huge thunderstorm breaks as we eat. Next is the museum in a whitewashed colonial building. We check out their collection of indigenous Malayan tools, baskets, houses and so on.

On the drive back to Parit Buntar we stop several times to pick up cotton candy for Rachel and the twins, and two different stops for local fruits. Back home we are treated to a true seafood feast, possibly the best Patrick says he's had. King prawns, huge (very expensive) tiger prawns, mussels all nicely fixed on the barbeque by David's older son. We eat way too much. After some beers, a friend of David shows up with a bottle of red wine, a pretty nice one from Australia!
