Ronda - A Day in Pictures

My rest day in Ronda was filled with laundry, resupply errands, and a visit to the Puente Nuevo, the “new bridge” across the deep canyon of the Guadalevin River that connects the two sections of the city. The errands were routine, the visit to Puente Nuevo was anything but, and is best told in pictures.

Puenta Nuevo, the tallest of the three bridges (120 m) that span the gorge. "Neuvo" is a relative term: construction of the bridge took place from 1751 to 1793. I paid €2.5 to go down into the small archway on the left side of the bridge where I got some interesting views up and down the gorge

A look back across the gorge after having made my way across the Puente Nuevo to the old town. The large building right of center, next to the bridge, is the former town hall, now a Parador - one in the chain of Spain's luxury hotels

I took a walk down the path that led to several view points along the lower reaches of the gorge, offering nice views of the Puente Neuvo as well as the waterfall

Keith AdamsThe bridge is a formidable and impressive structure. I can understand why it was 42 years in the making.

There was a lot of activity at the waterfall - including a small group of rappellers about to take the plunge

A large group at the bottom of the waterfall secured their line, and was cheering them on

The last man standing - he took a lot of time at the top, shifting his position and, I would guess, steeling his nerves before stepping off into the void

This cat was quite skeptical of the hound being held in check by a tourist following me back up hill

Keith AdamsWhat a handsome kitty! And it's got blue eyes, too.

Back at bridge level, I stopped for a cold drink and ran into a group of British tourists I'd met down on the trail, keen cyclists as well as photographers

Finally succumbed to having my picture taken by an insistent group of British tourists
