Looking forward to Kerry walking across the Mississippi. Of course if he had super-powers like Valerie and I have, he'd just leap from shore to shore. We did this with the Salmon River in Idaho at it's headwaters where it was just a couple of feet from bank to bank. Just a few miles downstream from where we made the "leap" that trick would have been impossible!

5 years agoHey travelers, time to get going! Be safe and have fun. Stay in touch please! Happy Trails Keith.
5 years agoThanks Jacques and Lise. We are ready to roll in the morning, even though our first two days will be rolling by car. John can only take two weeks for the trip, so we decided to get a jump start to the Natchez Trace Parkway. Maybe we'll be able to skip a little of the Florida heat as well. It's about 90 every day now, so really time to head north!
5 years agoThis is a very good news to hear that you will be cycling again this summer after all!
We wish you all the best to the 3 of you for Special 2020 Midwest tour starting tomorrow!
We’ll missed you to bike in Canada but we’ll be following you virtually!
Have a great time and be careful!👍
Jacques and Lise 🥰
Thank you. I'm not sure how much we can learn to like winging it. We're working feverishly now to see how much we can get planned before we leave :) Not much time now!
5 years agoYou might find out that you will like winging it! Looking forward to traveling with you. Be safe
5 years agoThanks, Rachael. It will be so good to get on the road again. I hope we can avoid both dangerous coronaviruses and dangerous canines!
5 years agoGood to hear from you again. Hope all goes well for you!
5 years agoThanks for the comment. The spurs in Iowa are just mapping glitches I didn't catch. We love out of the way and out of the ordinary museums and such. We'll definitely check out the Billy Clock Museum. I appreciate the suggestion. Please share any other suggestions you have. We've ridden in these states a few times in the past and it's always good to learn about something we might have missed. Kerry's goal is to always have at least one POI to visit every day.
5 years agoHi. I'm a native Mid-Westerner who has lived in Michigan and Iowa and Minnesota. I still live in Minnesota. I've ridden quite a lot of the territory on this map. I like your route and I'll resist making too many recommendations, but I can't help myself from just one suggestion.
I saw you had a couple of spurs outside of West Union and Calmar, IA. I don't know what those were all about, but there is an amazing museum just northwest of your route in tiny Spillville, Iowa. In my "Logic and Energy Debunk the Iowa Myth" journal I called The Bily Clock Museum the most under-rated museum in America. I wasn't kidding. Go a few miles off-route and check it out. You won't regret it.
I hope most of the places you stop at this summer will have indoor seating available. On a hot day the air conditioning can be more enjoyable than the food.
