Interesting. From its grayish face I think it must be a black kite.

2 years agoI will guess some kind of sandpiper type bird... Wikipedia lists about 50 species of sandpipers and allies for Portugal, approximately half of which look surprisingly like this one!

That huge one has a slight infestation of red scale. Had to look for it and about a dozen other pests back in the fall/winter of 1970 during my 2 months as a border Plant Quarantine Inspector in Kingman, AZ.
