It's really nice to have my own personal research assistant. :-)
2 days agoI loved the squares in Savannah and would ride around them on the weekend - especially in the spring during azalea season.
Many memories here - it's where I got my first "real" bike and started riding recreationally with a local club.
This is cool - I never knew that was there!
2 days agoI lived in Savannah in the late 80's when stationed at Hunter Army Airfield (just south of where you stayed). Not surprised by the bulletproof glass at the hotel/motel? as there were some really rough parts of Savannah you never went near (if you were "smart")!
2 days agoMärzen (German: [ˈmɛʁt͡sn̩] ⓘ) or Märzenbier (German: March beer) is a lager that originated in Bavaria, Germany. It has a medium to full body and may vary in colour from pale through amber to dark brown.[1] It was the beer traditionally served at the Munich Oktoberfest.[2][3] The geographical indication Oktoberfestbier is protected in the EU and can only be used for Märzen that is brewed in Munich.[4][5]
3 days agoI love Carl Hiaasen! I think I've read all his books, but think I saw he had a new one out last year or so. I haven't looked on Kindle lately but his writing is epic! That's cool you heard him speak in Houston. I know you're in Iowa now, but when were you in Houston?
3 days agoYeah. Or maybe Dr. Strange.
3 days agoAthens Greece still have trolley busses in ordinary service.
3 days agoI don't know if you've ever read Carl Hiaasen, but when I was a librarian (at the downtown Houston Public Library) I had the opportunity to hear him speak. He said that when he couldn't figure out a good way to kill off one of his characters he would just read the newspaper. This was before Florida Man, but, of course, there's always been Florida Man even before the meme.
Thanks for reading!!
Thanks, Laura! You just made my day!
3 days agoMark - this is the best yet. I love the brief listing of "Florida Man" incidents! I lived in Georgia for a few years in the late 80's and the news out of Florida always provided comic relief.
3 days agoThanks, Larry!
3 days agoWhen you eventually do it, I hope you post it here on CycleBlaze like you did your trip last month (I remember reading it, and enjoying it, especially since I've pedaled some of those roads myself).
3 days agoI'm late catching up with your trip but this is an epic day of touring!
I'm enjoying the blog and your ability to bring the days to life.
In Texas, painting fence posts or trees at your property line is the same as putting up a "no trespassing" sign and honored as such. Not sure about anywhere else - I'd never seen or heard of it until moving to Texas - so take it for what little that is worth!
