They are not actually flowers, they are cones, but male cones that produce pollen while the big, woody ones are female and produce seeds.

I looked for a source of info. for a while but all I found was information on pine pollen supplements, health foods, allergy, wild foraging, etc.

"Pollen cones" is out there somewhere though. It is one thing that stuck with me from my college Botany back in the 1960s.

In a day or so, those pollen cones will be dusting everything!

Hi Steve & Dodie! Enjoying following you along this trip! And you're heading to Boubiers and Ian's place? Are you planning to store your bikes there? He's a lovely man and we've kept in constant contact since we dropped our bikes off there last October. You'll be able to say hello to them for us. Can't wait to get back to them in September when we're planning a traverse across the Spanish Pyrenees following in the footsteps of TA / Kyle & Kirsten.

We stayed here in early October 2023. Not a flashy hotel but it worked. I think we even had the same room. The bike storage was a bit tight from what I recall and our weather was a little nicer too. But you and Dodie just seem to keep motoring along. It is fun to ride in France!

Nice shot! Commonly found on walls. Introduced to the Cincinnati OH area, where I have caught them. First time I did was late 1990s and it took a bit to find out they had been naturalized in the area for a while.

Kerry and I have done everything together for over 50 years now. People used to comment that we were joined at the hip. When we started riding the tandem, Kerry said we weren't joined at the hip, we were chained together.

Wow, so glad you got the missing part. Great that you encountered Beñat.
We must have passed very close to you today in the car!

The experience of meeting people like Beñat is one of the great joys of bike touring. So glad things worked out - I wouldn’t want to miss our early May rendezvous
