Hi Mike. Gqeberha is the isiXhosa corruption of the /xam Khoi word !gebexa meaning a river full of reeds, in reference to the Baakens river flowing through the area. !Gebe is a /xam word for a reed, and xa or rha which is the word for river. The Xhosa people when they met the /xam in the area adopted the name and pronounced it as Gqeberha, which sounds the same.

Hi Scott. Only about a third of the Cuckoos cuckold and there are other groups of birds that are also obligate brood parasites, such as the Viduidae (small finch-like seed eating birds) and the Honeyguides (which eat beeswax and larvae, not honey). Brood parasitism has also been observed in sone duck species although here the unfortunate recipient of an extra egg is usually of the same species.

Hi Rich. It was one of those days where the objective was to reach the destination in one piece. Drivers in Argentina, similar to those in much of the world, seem to drive more frantically as the driving conditions deteriorate. The weirdest element to the stressful situation that it creates is that they continue to give us friendly waves, thumbs ups and encouraging hoots all at the same time as almost killing us.

I was so surprised by this because it looks so different than the ones I'm familiar with. I see I needed to go up the family tree another level. It's the first time I realized that our roadrunner is a new world cuckoo too, and bears a real family resemblance to this guy.

Thank you. We stumbled upon a good restaurant for lunch - various empenades and a very nice Torrontés. Supermarkets not so good and I am I'm struggling to find decent coffee before my stash runs out.

Happy Anniversary you two! Hope you manage to celebrate in as much style as Chilecito allows.

Shooting at road signs is a universal problem. I pray for a world without guns.

Much better than bulletholes though, which is popular in some other places including my country.
