What a great day
2 years agoBe careful out there! We’ve got a heat wave coming on, and you won’t really start seeing any shade until you’re past Hood River.
2 years agoLooks awful on a hot day like this. We’ve never ridden this stretch, but took the back roads through Pendleton and into Umatilla. If you didn’t like like this though, you’d really have hated it further north where it’s rounding the curves between the cliffs and the river.
2 years agoWel that makes sense. Thanks for the clue Keith.
2 years agoRR signal maintenance crews use them a lot, I think. I bet the rails cause pretty odd wear patterns in the truck's tires, though.
2 years agoOh, good. I forgot I had sent that to you and was looking for it to send you a link but can’t find it again.
2 years agoGlad you suggested it. Brad has a laminated copy of the map you sent me of bike routes around here. Lots of possibilities for our easy day.
2 years agoI love this road, and this town. Glad to hear you’re staying here two nights. There’s some great riding northwest of here.
2 years agoThere's definitely a different dirt of pretty here. The way the wheat fields flow here is fascinating
2 years agoOuch! These recumbents do take some space. I'm always bashing things with the pedals.
2 years agoMy favorite kind of country.
2 years agoUgh. Pretty though, in a minimalist way.
2 years agoYep, that's what our motel rooms look like also! This past summer I tripped over my bike on the way to the bathroom and ended up on top of the front wheel. I took some skin off of my forearm with the big chainring and ended up needing to get the wheel trued. Happily, we were only two days from home, so I made do. It was a rude wake up.
2 years agoI read in your journal about your stay there. It was a pretty spot, and quiet that night other than the buzz-buzz slap-slap.

2 years agoI remember that area well. You are very smart to not subject yourself to camping in the heat. The next riding day was the day we suffered. Count yourself lucky if you don't hit the wind through there.
