Inches, feet and miles were not enough to get us metric people in trouble? :-o

A chain is 66 feet so the altitude is 287.76 feet above sea level.
I know a bloke whose first job was a land surveyors assistant or chainman.
He got to carry the chain around, which he said was hard work.
See Gunters Chain in your Wikipedia for how the chain was deployed

I didn't know chains were used to measure elevation! Interesting.

I took a picture almost like that when I visited there about a month ago with my daughter who lives in Santa Cruz!

Hi Karen, you have become a bit famous for me, especially after I read Heidi Ho. Anyone who has met Leo Woodland qualifies as famous, just by having fame rub off. That makes me famous too!

But I found it amusing to see you cruising through the territory of famous in their own right Janet and Jack. I think it's cool that Janet found you before you had slipped completely by and up to Big Sur. It's getting a little dated now, but this page https://www.cycleblaze.com/journals/coastalgrampies/seaside-to-big-sur-california/

begins with our own Jack and Janet photo.

Wise decisions made all around we would say re meal, camping upgrade, etc. It is not supposed to be a torture test, after all.
