Necessarily dull: Vinh to Ha Tinh

NOT a lot to report, I'm afraid. Steph's wrist is aching from yesterday's hammering and - it looked for a while that we wouldn't ride at all - we switched off all but the most necessary senses and rode Highway 1 for half a day.

Anything to avoid twists and turns and bumps and sudden braking.

We rode a flat-bottomed valley with crumbling red cliffs to our right and green hills to our left. The prettier, quieter way would have been in those hills but that wasn't our priority.

Instead, we bowled along the side strip of the main and almost flat road. Trucks and busloads of sleepy backpackers passed all morning but we barely noticed. As I said, all but the most necessary senses.

The result: nothing much to recount, other than a single picture taken of us in a café, the pleasure all the greater for having a pretty girl sitting on my lap.

Tomorrow will be another day.

Today's ride: 69 km (43 miles)
Total: 744 km (462 miles)
