Race Day

We finally get on bikes

Saturday morning we got our bike rentals and did some riding. It was supposed to be an easy ride before the race but couldn’t resist a bit of climbing.

“The Climb” race up the Alp d’Huez was a great experience. I was worried about how hard to ride. We had done no riding for days and rental bikes don’t have power meters, so it was all by heart rate and feel.

We had a recovery beer at the top, and then descended back to the cabin.  Not much pedalling involved!

We had a nice meal in town on a patio. I had a very strange galette with beef and an egg. And a couple of Kwak beers.

Finally rolling for a pre-race ride.

Our ride first went up the Alpe d’Huez road, then turned onto a “balcony” road overlooking the valley. Then back in the valley.
