Day 92 - Steele to Medina

We awoke to light rain this morning.  We hung around until almost 11:00 before we left.  Since we had a very short day, we had plenty of time.  There was still a very light sprinkle when we left, but it cleared up after about ten miles.  It remained cloudy, but we had no more rain.

We decided to take I-94 the whole way today.  There were some stretches of dirt road, or roads with questionable paving status, and we didn't want to deal with those after it had rained all night.

Clean and smooth shoulder on I-94 with NORMAL rumble strips!

Because of the rain, I had the camera packed away for much of today's ride.  To be honest, there was very little of interest to see.  North Dakota scenery is not very inspiring,

We did see more small lakes and ponds with lots of ducks and other waterfowl.

Even with a moderate headwind and two stops, we were in Medina by 2:30.

At the top of the off-ramp at the Medina exit, we saw this huge mound of gravel.

Entering the town, we encountered a detour even Kerry had to walk around.

We had lunch at Grundy's Bar and Grill

The bar. The woman at the end was the cook and server and mother of the owner. We got talking about bike touring and she mentioned a couple from Hawaii who stopped in recently on their trip from Washington, DC to the west coast. It was Skip and Gunda, whom we met last week between Glendive and Wibaux.

Jeanna & Kerry SmithTo Curt & Helene ReedI figure Skip and Gunda must like to talk to everyone they meet as much as we do!

We have one more eastbound day tomorrow before we turn south and head towards South Dakota.  It's another very short day so we may have a leisurely start again.  It's so nice not to get up at 5:00AM!

Today's ride: 32 miles (51 km)
Total: 3,478 miles (5,597 km)

Seth WeitzmanYou guys are always finding interesting places and meeting interesting people. When I was in Medina, I was lost downtown literally riding my bike in circles trying to find my way. A woman in an SUV called my name, “Seth! Follow me.” I followed her to the North Country Lodge, where I had a reservation. Another one of the Trail Angels I’ve met this trip - people who help you out if a jam. Stay cool! (I sent you an email yesterday.) Seth

Jeanna & Kerry SmithTo Seth WeitzmanWe're at the North Country Lodge tonight. Spacious and comfortable with everything we need, but just like the Broken Spoke - twin beds!
