Fray Bentos

The plan for today was to visit the old Fray Bentos factory, whose tinned steak and kidney pies were a special treat when I was a child.  So after a healthy breakfast of various fruits we slowly cycled to the plant just south of the town.  It lies in the Barrio Anglo which used to be a fully contained town with its own hospitals and schools for the workers at the factory and is a now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Alas, when we got there we found out that it is closed on Mondays, so we will have to spend an extra day in Fray Bentos to visit it.

We spent the next two hours lazing around the factory area watching birds picking up a few new species for our list, so it wasn't a complete waste of time.

Jean-Marc StrydomHi Mike

I use a Panasonic Lumix GX8 combined with a Leica 100-400 F4.0/6.3 lens. This is the smallest camera that has acceptable enough autofocus for wildlife photography although it falls short of higher end models. Because it uses the Mirco Four-Thirds form factor, the lens is the equivalent of a 200-800mm on a full frame body but the combination of body and lens is a fraction of what a full frame DSLR and equivalent lens would be. There is YouTube video that gives a feel what it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfySSktrYJA

Jean-Marc
